    oberkorn28, did you put new processor right after disconnecting the cmos battery, before connecting it back and powering the system? If no, try it. If yes, cmospwd won't help either and I'm out of ideas, but you should try to return the CPU, it may be faulty...You can create bootable USB stick using Rufus, but again, if removing CMOS battery for couple minutes doesn't help - cmospwd won't either, because it does absolutely the same.

    Oh, and maybe it's time for you to get a new system. =\

    i didnt put the new one in before bios loaded new settings - will try that.

    i have several new systems - but this is an old laptop i wanted to keep for a spare room - i bought a new screen and casing - so hope i dont have to bin it just yet.

    can i not try flashing the bios - and does anyone know where i can locate the original bios to flash it with ?
