I have finally made it to get the card to work. What a flaky solution! After moving in&out the card in the slot I got it to work. Crazy & unreliable. As this the first expresscard I use I hope it's just a manufacturer's crappy product....or is the e6520 well known for a bad cage quality?

I received an E6520 from a client of mine. It still has a year of warranty left on it.

I currently have the low res screen with Intel and Nvidia graphics. What parts would I need to upgrade the LCD and if I did do the upgrade, would it void my warranty?

Guys is anyone using the E6520 with Windows 8.1? In this case, what driver provider and version are you using with the Dell (Broadcom) 375 Bluetooth adapter?

    Hello,

I recently acquired an E6520. It has the low res screen, LED type and the Intel 3000 graphics. I want to drop in the FHD panel. Looking at the unit, both have 40 pin connectors. Do I need to replace the cable or do anything else? I was chatting with an LCD supplier and they said that some pin assignments are different with the FHD displays.

Has anyone done this? Do I need anything besides the new LCD?

    Thank!

Hmmm... looks like this thread is kind of dead, but I ordered an LCD HD panel. I also ordered a cable for the LCD, Dell part number 08PT7 from eBay if anyone is interested. I get the stuff probably by Friday so when I replace the LCD and video cable, I'll let you know if it worked.

OK, so I put a Samsung LP156WF1 TL-B2 in the unit with the cable I mentioned above and it works flawlessly.

My laptop was purchased second hand... and It has a clean install.. I have tried to grab all the drivers.. but with 8GB RAM, i7 2720, and a 256 SSD I feel like it is running way slow. My graphics scores in windows experience are 5.1? Need advice. I know I have the HD screen and the 4200m card as well. I lag running flash games even !

You can check to make sure that all hyper threading and virtualization is turned on in the BIOS.

Secondly if you go to Dell's website under the support section, enter your service tag. Then let it run the system detect to ensure you have all the drivers you need. Chipset, Nvidia, etc. I know you said you think you have all the drivers, but in my experience it never hurts to double check. The old saying of "if you want something done right, do it yourself."

I have a question regarding system temps:

I seem to idle between 45 and 50 degrees celcius. Under load it can go up to around 80 degrees celcius. I looked up the CPU on Intel's site and the T-Junction (max temp) is 80 degrees celcius. What temps are you guys getting on your machines and should I re-paste the CPU or are my temps good.

I love the power of this machine and once I upgrade the LCD it should server me very well. I just de-commissioned my much loved E6500 in favor of this machine. It's got the back lit keyboard and even though it's slightly off center due to the number pad, it is pretty easy to type on. I was holding on to the E6500 because it had the 16:10 LCD. But the Core2Duo was starting to hold me back. This i7 and it's 8GB of RAM plus dedicated GPU is like a breath of fresh air.

I should be getting my E6520 pretty soon, and once I get the machine I was planning on doing some upgrades, and wanted some opinions.

    The original Specs are:
    15.6" HD 1366X768
    INTEL CORE i5-2520M @ 2.5GHZ
Intel HD 3000 Graphics (NO NVS)
    3GB RAM
    250GB HD
    DVD+/-RW
    Dell WIFI
    Dell BLUETOOTH
    No Webcam
    No Backlit Keyboard
    No Fingerprint Reader

I'm going to use it mainly for web browsing, email, remote desktop, and some gaming (the newest what I'd call 'graphically intensive' game I play is L4D2)

Here's what I know I am doing for sure:
I'm going to replace the 3GB of ram with 4GB, replace the 250GB HDD with a 96GB Sata II SSD I have, and add the backlit keyboard and webcam modules.

I was wondering though, how difficult is it to add the fingerprint reader or upgrade the LCD. Is it worth doing either of these two upgrades? If so what resolution should I pick, I use 1920x1080 on my 24" Desktop LCD, but is it decent and readable on a 15.6" laptop? Also, if the LCD upgrade is worth it, what DELL Part Numbers do I need for the LCD and proper LVDS Cable?

    Thanks!

Suddenly the battery is charging until 70% and no more.....
I fully discharged it but again is charged to 70%....
I have the laptop for about 2,5 years and the battery is a 9cell 97whr
Is there any utility or procedure to reset / re calibrate the battery....?

    Hello,

I've got E6520 i5-2540M without NVIDIA and I want to upgrade my RAM to 16G.
CPU allows 16G of RAM but only 1333 speed max, my RAM will be 1600. Will it run? Anyone tried this configuration?

Good to know, I'm tempted to do the same. I'm "only" running 8 at the moment...
