I am interested in E6430 with an i7 quad core (3720QM). But I am concerned about how will be the heat management on this notebook. A 45W processor loaded into a 14" chassis - seems like he laptop will heat up too quickly under load. What do you guyz think.

I actually missed the other owners thread, maybe a mod can merge the other into this one.

I think the 7mm drive may need a spacer to be safe, I dont have one to test so I can't tell you for sure.

I will post up feedback on operation when I am done building the image and doing benchmarks.

    The config is:

    i7-3720QM Processor (2.6GHz, 6M cache
    Memory 16GB, DDR3-1600MHz SDRAM, 2 DIMM
Internal Keyboard Internal English Backlit Dual Pointing Keyboard
    NVIDIA® NVS™ 5200M (GDDR5 1GB)
Primary Storage 256GB OCZ Vertex 4 (Self Added)
    LCDs 14.0" HD+(1600x900)

    Speaker Quality

Needless to say the fact that there are two additional speakers on this model, means that not only volume levels have increased by 25% but sound quality in terms of cleaner highs and vocals are equally improved. Side by side testing, you can barely hear the speakers on the 6420 compared. Back to back performance leaves no questions that the E6430 is a major improvement in sound.

ahaider7 so far I haven't seen any heat issues that are alarming. The vent area on the left side of the laptop does get warm after some heavy use, but overall I haven't had any concerns about heat.

I've had a GPU intensive process running for the past 2days 16 hours non-stop, along with running multiple virtual machines during the hours I'm awake. The fans and heat pipes look to be keeping the core components cool.

Others may have additional input or observations.

running gpu and cpu intensive task (e.g. 3DMark) the unit throttles down relatively quickly (20-60 min ymmv)
