All the SSDs in current Dell notebooks over 128GB are Samsung and all support TRIM, as long as you install the OS using AHCI.

If for some odd reason you get an older samsung drive you simply get the model of the drive go to samsungs support site and update the firmware of the drive to a level that supports TRIM.

If you don't want to use the Dell/Samsung SSD.

As mentioned you can go with OCZ Vertex, Intel branded SSD those are your most mature stable SSDs.

The new Vertex2 and Corsair using Sandforce controllers will/are the fastest but reliability has yet to be determined.

Does anyone with a E6410 making any high pitched noise (which appear to accompany the hard disk activity)?

I can understand hard disks can make some noise when its reading/writing, but my hard disk squeek sound is accompanied by a noise high pitched and with duration longer than that squeek sound.

    THanks for your help.

Call Dell, they can arrange something, such as doing a special order for you, or tell you when they will have it.

Sure, I bought one from HK through ebay (20€). It already arrived and I hope it`ll fit perfect in the E6410. When I bought it the new Latitudes were not announced, but I think they won`t have changed the DVD Slot that much.

It`s not the best Quality (the slider to pull it out is no slider), but it was cheap and I`ll see how it will work.

However, my order changed to „shipped” today! :))

Check ebay: I bought a new E-port Plus off ebay.co.uk for £70 about 6 weeks ago. I would expect it to fit the new E series models.

my e6410 just got delayed from 26/04 to 12/05 after being in production for 3 days; do you think that the ash cloud is related to this (my sisters XPS13 got shipped with UPS Air...)?

How does the screen perform outdoors?

Also, any luck doing moderate gaming with this machine?

I can't say for the E6410, but the E6400 is very good outdoor. The LED backlit is very strong... even... in some instance.. too strong :) Sometimes I want to lower the screen brightness, but I can't because it's too bright :D LED's + matte screen are an awesome combination.

I do moderate gaming at low to medium low setting on the E6400, which has a much slower GPU (Quadro NVS 160 - or if you want a Geforce 9400M but with 256MB of dedicated memory). However, I do overclock my GPU a lot (laptop has no problem handling the extra heat).. see my signature to see how much I go far. This GPU should handle today's latest games at medium or medium-low settings without too much difficulties. Of course don't expect 60fps in big games, but expect playable FPS 25-30 in big games. Of course, I am only assuming here.
