I'm not talking about purchasing one. I'm talking about my existing cases :p

i must admit it would look sleeker with the 6 cell; good thing thats not really an issue for me.

Did anyone try out 4-cell batteries? I've seen them on dell europe for E107 (i dont have euro symbol), they go for $69 on ebay.
If you did, what's the battery life and weight of 4 cell battery?

I currently have 9 cell, but i'm looking for battery to minimize the weight of laptop when i just need it for 1-2hr class.

I was thinking of 6 cell, but 4-cell would be nicer as it would keep weight to minimum.

The 4-cell is rated at 37wh vs. 85wh for the 9-cell (the 6-cell is 56wh, fyi). Based on that, the 4-cell should last about 43% of 9-cell duration. I'm not sure how much weight difference there is between the 4 and 6-cell batteries.

I'm pretty sure that the weight difference between the batteries would be negligible. Of what importance is a few ounces more? I worry more over the size of the laptop as opposed to the weight, generally. Maybe that's just me talking. Are there situations where these sort of things really matter?

    From the Dell specs:

The casing of the 4 and 6 cell batteries is the same, so the only weight saving is 2 less cells inside. The 9 cell has a bigger casing which adds to the weight.

From the back of the Setup Features and information Techsheet.

There used to be a more comprehensive E6400 Setup and Quick Reference Guide which is no longer on the Dell website, but someone has put a copy here. It's well worth getting a copy and looking through it.

Hi all. I have stumbled upon this thread while searching info about the e6400. I am ordering from Spain and the fact is that ordering two 6 cell batteries costs me as much as ordering a single 9 cell battery (it is 3 € less to be honest). What do you think about this option? I can have a spare battery in case the first one dries out or dies after 2 years or so (my old precision M90 battery still lives with about 60% of life after 3 years).

Your option makes a lot of sense if you infrequently need more time than one 6 cell battery provides. You should have one battery in regular use and the other in occasional use. That way you will still have one good battery in a couple of years time.

On the other hand, if you have to carry both 6 cell batteries around, then the 9 cell would be a less heavy and more convenient option.
