Yes... this is true. With my windows XP (32 bit) it still recognized the 3 gigs w/out a BIOS flash.

It doesn't show up on the regular system report via control panel for some reason, and there are probably other ways to do it, but the simplest way since you're talking HP/Compaq is:

Assuming you're in Vista, from Start tab GoTo 'Help and Support'. At the top you'll see a 'System Information' shortcut. It has a lot of good info that is otherwise undisclosed on the regular Vista system screen and I find it tends to be more useful. There are probably plenty of free programs that do the same thing. Also I'm not sure, but I think this information comes from "polling" the BIOS and the registry for device names, settings, and specs.

I haven't actually played with the BIOS screen at startup, but you may be able to get the same info there as well if you're familiar. If you're not familiar, be very careful -it's not exactly easy to make disabling system changes, but it is possible.

With Calistoga 945PM (dv6187) having the latest F.29 bios can i install 2x2GB modules?
I have already 2x1GB Transcend Powerchips 5-5-5-15@4-4-4-12@modified spd
and if 2x2GB are ok i will modify them to @4-4-4-12 (G.Skill i am thinking or Transcend again) or 3-3-3-9 (since they are rated to 800).
And at Intel Specs i can see that if installing 4GB 965 & 945 will drop memory from 667 to 533. Is that true?

Ok i installed 2x2GB and system can see 3GB max
(both XP-32 bit & Linux 64-bit) so it is a chipset limitation,
    though bios reports 4096MB. They are running @ 4-4-4-12 @ 667MHz.
Module one by one can run at 4-3-3-9 but not on dual channel.
Interesting is that when using one module i have better latency that with
two. Same happened with 2x1GB modules so that might be the a crappy bios implementation....

Pump this because of what i read on first posts.
P945PM cannot support 4GB of ram only 3GB.
This is have nothing to do with bios although latest
is highly recommended recognize 4GB correctly and not
have any issues with 2x2GB sticks.
