My g/f owns a HP dv1000 based notebook and it works great for video chatting such as Skype. The other night it was working fine until half way through our session the mic died. I could hear nothing and was even able to look at it much closer today.

I checked both Windows and Skype audio options, just in case she accidentally muted the microphone but there was nothing out of the ordinary. I then tried to reinstall the audio and video cam driver but wasn't sure how much that would do. That too did nothing. I know it's not a critical error problem but definitely something that I am very displeased about.

Anyone else have something like this happen? Is there a separate mic driver for the integrated mic/camera setup?

Please post the reply. I have EXACTLY the same issue (SKYPE loaded and dv1000 series failure).

    Thanks.

OK so I had the exact same problem as above and I also have a hpdv1000 (1680ea to be precise) and maybe my problem will be of some help

After a LOT of trial and error I found a solution to my problem......

1 - Go into control panel
    2. Then go into sound and audio devices
    3. Then click on the voice tab
    4. Under this tab you will see the test hardware button, so then click that
    5. A wizard will apppear so click next and it will load up
    6. It will then ask you to speak into your microphone and if your situation is like mine you will notice the volume bar remaining silent so click on the volume buttom under the volume level and then click advanced under the mic level and UNCHECK "Mic Docking Sel"

Dont ask me what that option is or why it was checked in the first place but when I unchecked it I could successfully test my mic and it now works fine!

    Hope this helps

I have the same problem with a vista operating system. How can I get my internal microphone to work? It used to, and suddenly stopped. The only hardware my system shows is the Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221. Is that the internal mike or is that the external head jack plug in. Help!
