    Got here via way of a Google search. I'm sick of Vista and I have an XP Pro SP2 CD and license just sitting around unused.

    I tried entering my laptop's product code and SN and it tells me they're not valid....and I'm staring at the sticker WITH THEM ON IT!

    So has anyone produced a guide that one can follow yet?

    Firstly, I installed windows XP on my VGN-NR110E/s via TinyXP (Google, look for a torrent.) (comes with SATA drivers integrated, etc)

    Next, I installed drivers for graphics from this thread (like page 3-ish, a good link was posted.)

    Mouse driver was also from the same guy on like page 3.

    Wireless drivers were found here. look for "IEEE 802.11a/g Wireless LAN Adapter (A) Driver (4)" (page3)

    Sound hotkey thing was posted in this thread too.

    Things I don't have myself: Those card readers (I don't use them.) Ethernet (I don't use it anymore, but a good link was posted on page 3 that worked just fine back when I had a wired router. I don't have button controls for screen brightness, but it is change-able through options (see a bit down.) That's about it..

    Screen shot of it running:
    [IMG]

    To change the screen brightness, just go to your advanced graphic options and change the brightness level as shown in this picture heeeere:

    Runs much much faster than the default vista that comes loaded. Best of luck to all, hope I helped. :)

    V.Grove...

    Audio
    ~~~~~
    1) Install the patch kb888111 first. Get a download link for this file from
    http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/arc.../11/81540.aspx
    2) Install the Realtek Driver now. Get this from
    http://support.asus.com/download/dow...ct=3&model=W3V
    This also includes the patch that supersedes 888111 but don't bother about it. Just run setup.
    P.S. - Make sure the 888111 patch goes in first. You may have to fiddle around with these 2 things to get it working. But it does work. If done the right way, it'll work fine.
    -> I installed drivers for audio from this thread (like page 3) until driver sound does not work..someone help me?
    Regarding Sound: You have to install the chipset driver, then the graphics driver and then the sound, then the card reader, then the modem, then the wireless, if you mess up the order I don't know how you can fix it. I didn't do it in that order at first and I just couldn't get sound to work. So I formatted again and did it in the above order and it worked.
    I was wondering if anyone had a problem with freezing in XP. My laptop has froze 3 times in the past 3 weeks for no apparent reason. It would just freeze and I can't move the mouse or do anything but shut down. If anyone else has had this problem or knows why I might have this problem, please let me know, thanks.
    Yes, my laptop also froze. I suspect it might be the power settings. Have you tried going to Power Options, and making sure nothing turns off after some period of non-use?
    I too downgraded to WinXP. Everything worked except for brightness control. So, in the absence of any tools, I decided to go and write some code. You can download my results at:
    http://rapidshare.com/files/83073814/Backlight.zip.html
    You don’t need Sony Notebook Control or other Sony drivers. But you do need to install MSVC 2005 redistributable, and also memaccess (I’ve included both packages). After that, run backlight.exe. I only put in 5 brightness settings, due to a bug I wasn’t able to track down. So, type backlight x at the command prompt, where x = 1 (dimmest), 2, 3, 4, or 5 (brightness). You can also add backlight to your startup folder, and alter the setting in backlight.cfg.
    I wrote this for my VGN-NR110E, but this might also work on other VGN-NR models with GMA 965 graphics card.
    This tool is far from perfect, but it's better than nothing? For instance, if you run a game in fullscreen, the Intel driver apparently resets the brightness - you would have to switch back to desktop, and rerun backlight.exe.
    Credit goes to Lortie and Blache who did the reverse engineering work, and wrote the MacBook Backlight Control for Linux. Google gma950_backlight.c for the original source code.
    I am, however, using the eval version of memaccess, so there is an annoying nag screen everytime you run the utility. If anybody has a copy of memaccess that they’re not using, they can send me that copy, and I’ll be able to recompile a non-nag version.
    Hey, I found a link to the brightness problem on another forum (http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?postid=2632513).
    You can either read it for yourself, or go to
    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Vaio/Original/
    and click on the link for "FE3_Utilities.zip" and open (in order):
    1. Utils Installer 1 SonyUtilsDLL
    2. Utils Installer 2 Sony Shared Library
    3. Utils Installer Vaio Event Service
    They say it fixes the FN + F5 and F6 buttons themselves. (I haven't done it, yet, it's a 3 hour download ... i'll post to let everyone know if it worked ...)
    No, I tried that. That won't work. None of the Original utilities work.
