If your talking about torrents you can't talk about that on these forums.

He already owns it, but is waiting for his upgrade disks to arrive by mail. His question was if he could download the same data so he could use it faster.

Yeah that's the whole idea of torrents but only in theory. In practice it doesn't work out that way.

Why can't people talk about torrents?

People equate "torrents" with "pirating", which is just incorrect. Yes, torrents are used for pirating, but they are not intrinsically pirating. This kind of thinking is squelching the development of the "torrent" concept as a viable means of software distribution.

The Windows Anytime Upgrade disc should not be considered something that is pirated, it is simply a storage medium--they key here is that the license and any mechanism for validating the license is legitimate.

I will not be surprised if Microsoft follows suit to Linux and distributes its installation media via ISOs over torrents--indeed, I am surprised it has not occured already--lower bandwith for MS Servers

Yeah i know gerry but the owners of the site don't want to deal with such a touchy matter so talking about it is banned. That's why all the torrent threads in OT get deleted.

so mainly the amazon.com site lets me download the disc and burn to dvd? Can someone send me a direct link the only ones I see are 50 and up. also I am not trying to pirate anything as my notebook came with Vista Ultimate so there is nothing really to pirate I just want to make a clean install asap.

Well, technically, it wasn't a torrent discussion until you made it one, but I understand that.

I think what I am trying to say is that such a policy is unwise and should be reconsidered.

Blanket policies like that do a disservice to users. I am sure the moderators on these forums are intelligent enough to make rational decisions on when a post deserves to be deleted or not.

There is technically nothing wrong with even sharing a legitimate ISO image of Vista or XP provided it has not been cooked to avoid validation or promote piracy--Microsoft does not even copy-protect its CDs/DVDs in any way.

I am all for intellectual property rights and stamping out piracy, but let's not go so far that we make life difficult for legitimate users.
