I know the native resolution on these machines is 1660x900, but can I also choose 1440x900?

    Doubtful since it's a different aspect ratio/shape.

Edit: I misunderstood OP - thought they meant a screen swap. Yes you should probably be able to set that custom resolution.

Theoretically it should be able to do so, but remember to change resolution through Intel Graphics settings and choose "keep aspect ratio", otherwise the image will be elongated.

I appreciate the replies. Ended up buying a used E6410 just to be safe. It stated in the description that the laptop has a 1440x900 resolution. Thanks again.

Not sure if it's really worth spending money on another laptop just to get the resolution you want but hey, at least you bought a well-built one :)

I only bought the E6410; Didn't buy any other laptop.

It didnt come with an adapter, though. Is it worth it to get the genuine Dell adapter, or will any generic one do?

Generic, nothing special about Dell adapters. Buy from reputable sellers on Amazon, its like 10 bucks tops.
