I am thinking about getting a laptop that will run with an external 4k monitor for my home office setup.

Does it need a HDMI 2.0 slot for it?

You haven't given much information, which makes it hard to help. Complete the FAQ stuck at the top of this forum and post back. That would help us narrow things down.

HDMI 2.0 is required for 4K/60. Good news is that just about every new laptop you can buy today that has an HDMI port is 2.0 compatible. Newer designs are even including HDMI 2.1, which allows for 60 Hz output at 8K resolution.
