I have been fairly impressed by them. A couple of my friends have powerbooks and they are alot better then mine.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that doesn't like Powerbooks from a cosmetic and build standpoint, if money was no issue. However, you just can't play any of the really nice games out there on an Apple notebook.

Once the Intel based notebooks come out, however, Apple should have the best notebooks out there. About the only laptops out there that can compete in terms of looks, build quality, and performance would be the new models coming from Asus which is not suprising since I read that they make the laptops for Apple.

Apples certainly are handsome. I'd say Fujitsu, LG, HP Business Class, Panasonic and IBM can compete. Looks is a personal preference. I personally woundn't get a Mac cause of the limited software options.

I can't stand the design standpoint of apples designers, they are so form over funtion it is rediculous. last week i took my fujitsu N6210 to class and someone with a powerbook 17" sat next to me and couldn't say enough about my Fujitsu. I don't think anyone but sony can even compete with Fujitsu when it comes to the screen :)

and for design, Apple has a good thing going but it doesn't work for me, they hype there design and power but it is just kind of hype ya know, they don't make the prettiest, fastest, most functional, or the lightest, but they do a good job, just not for me.

I think Fujitsu, Sony, Toshiba, and IBM should team up to make a the best laptop ever. apple could come to the party if they want but only to watch.

I think it comes down to OS X versus Windows.

The powerbooks are quite outdated at the moment though.

I have only owned Apple computers personally, but I have used them numerous times at school and at Friends' houses. I have heard several computer horror stories from people I know with PCs about viruses, break downs, software not loading right on the like. The PCs which I have to use outside of home are terrible, they suffer breakdowns at network failures all the time. I have never had a Mac, Laptop or Desktop ever breakdown on me. With a little care my 1994-5? Powerbook 150 still works fine. My current laptop, an iBook G4 works wonderfully. The only bad thing about Apple is lack of software and the Price of their computers

The only reason apples have less software breakdowns is they have much less hardware they need to be compatable with. i mean they have such a select choice PCS have so many different brand and choice of parts some good some cheap asian crap that have drivers that mess your whole OS up. Im amazed windows works as well as it does having to work with so many different things. and as for viruses and spam thats not microsofts fault just more pcs out there, so more people make crap to infect it if apple gains more market share with the new intel boxs they will start to see the same issues.
