@Blacky I took your advice and returned with 2 models to ask what you think. You suggested the GM501GS, but I couldn't justify the extra cost of the 1070, especially with the 1060 version GM501GM on sale here: http://www.hidevolution.com/asus-gm501gm-ws74.html

Then I noticed a similarly spec'd MSI GE63 Raider was even more on sale and cheaper to begin with: http://www.hidevolution.com/msi-ge63-raider-8re-rgb-011.html

I don't mind paying extra for quality and reliability, so is the ASUS worth the extra 2-300? Please note for either model, I will most likely go with HIDevolution and their Conductonaut and Fujipoly Pads upgrade. Thanks!

    You did very well.
Here is a comparison between the two laptops: MSI GE63 Raider RGB-011 8RE vs Asus ROG GM501GM
The Asus has a few advantages: Thunderbolt (if you want to add an external GPU later on), IPS display (helps if you are going to do photo editing) , slightly better battery life. I would say build quality and reliability is similar for both laptops. Is it worth the extra money? Unless you like the idea of an external GPU, I would say it is not worth getting the Asus.
Whatever you do, getting this laptop from HID evolution with Conductonaut will make you a happy camper :).
