When I loaded my Day of the Tentacle and Tales of Monkey Island discs (the former a CD the latter a DVD) into my BD-RE on my N55SF, I got a lot of vibration from my computer. The Tales of Monkey Island DVD produced more vibration.

I've tried other discs include my Inception Blu-Ray disc and have not seen such crazy levels of vibration. Has anyone else seen similar vibration problems from ASUS disc drives?

This symptom is caused by a disc that is either out of balance, or slightly warped.

When accelerated up to speed in the drive this induces wobble, which creates the downstream symptom of vibration and/or noise.

In rare cases of a problem with the drive mechanism or tray, the symptom is constant and similar across all inserted discs.

In general a DVD will spin slower than a CD-ROM disc, and a BD slower than a DVD, so it may have something to do with the speed of the motor.

Some vibration is normal, but I'm sure you know that. ;) The obvious thing is that it shouldn't be pulsing when it's not seeking.

Well, the Tales of Monkey Island DVD spun really, really loud, but several other DVDs did not. The Day of the Tentacle disc is really old, it did vibrate as loud, but it might have been because it was reading from a the drive and copying straight to my HP Touchpad.

No other disc I've tried including some more Blu-Rays created such a ruckus. I guess the most parsimonious explanation is that those discs are a bit warped.

UPDATE: Per visual assessment of my ancient Day of the Tentacle CD, it was covered with scratches.
