Hi all just wanted to share my story on dells support and the problem i had with my laptop.

So after seeing all the positive reviews of the alienware 17r4 gtx 1080 (after repast) i decided to buy one myself. of course i was planning to repast the laptop as soon as i got it. however my re pasting adventure quickly came to a stop after i stripped the last 2 screws holding the heat sink in place. after a lot of trial and error i failed to remove and replace the screws in the laptop. So i decided to give it a shot and call dell's support and asked as to what to do next. They told me that technically you are not supposed to enter the laptop yourself and that it would void your warranty. **** i thought!

However they guys over there at technical support decided to send over a technician the next day anyway to replace the mobo completely and he applied some kyronout at the same time :). free of charge and under the warranty.

So yeah rating 10/10 for customer support and the sense of urgency i mean i break my laptop and they fix it with a new heat-sink and a new mobo the next they!

Also the laptop runs like a dream nice and chilled and they updated my bios as well to 1.0.9

If there was any doubt on their support quality well there you go!

Also thanks to all you notebookreview members posting so much valuable information here!

I'm not sure BIOS 1.0.9 is stable though - ask @iunlock

Compared to the latest one they released last week, in my opinion its far superior. The fan tables on the very latest one are terrible, please see other posts on the bios thread.

Bios 1.0.9 is a ticking time ______. It has great fan tables and is very smooth, but there's a bug in it somewhere.

It is very possible that the system will not turn on one day due to the bios (1.0.9) and you'll have to do a hard reset via CLRP2, which often has you holding your breath because there's no guarantee that it'll work.

For those on 1.0.9 that have remained on it without flashing the bios at all may be fine.

The ones who are more at risk are those who have flashed up from an earlier bios.

If you're flashing back, from lets day 1.0.9 to 1.0.2 then that should be okay.

The fact of their being a bug I'm bios 1.0.9 has also been confirmed from someone in the company. I won't drop any names.

ow man i so didn't want you to say that ! :(

I will re flash back up then, my system is a 2017 system and came with 1.0.9 by default. Either way, i would rather have warmer temps than a system that may die on me.
Do you know if they plan to resolve the fan tables in a newer release of the bios?

I don't notice any difference between the fan tables in 1.0.9 and 1.0.12. Although I haven't been paying full attention. Both work great for me. Is the problem they're too loud or not spinning enough?

Sounds like the issue with the previous models when 1.2.12 was released. Similar issue.
