I hate this laptop. I have had it for over a year...constant video problems causing the laptop to crash, problems with it running slow and sluggish, and now something is causing the fan to run constantly. After I first bought it Dell replaced the motherboard and updated all the drivers. Now after nearly a year I hate this computer.

Small tweezers? Google search turned up several You Tube videos. Good luck.

This laptop runs to hot fact!!!

Has anyone modded this laptop in any way, or have you seen a thread with someone doing it? Am thinking once my warranty is up getting most of the parts replaced and starting a fresh with a modded laptop, ie CPU cooler or even cutting a large hole underneath the laptop and sticking a vent grill on as well as a cooling pad

Is there a upgraded fan you can buy for better cooling of the CPU?

Any advice or info is appreciated! :)

I just swapped my mechanical 500gb 7200RPM drive for a 240gb SSD and that solved the overheating issue for me. Mine was getting so hot on the touchpad it was unusable. Now it stays nice and cool :D

Just an FYI, I just installed the max 8GB of DDR3 RAM. Picked it up for $34.99 at Micro Center. It was $5 off and it's re-branded ADATA RAM. Slightly lower CAS but it's decent, basic RAM at a great price.

    CPU-Z before and after...

    Hey,

ive got a 1558 m540 2.53 i5 6gb ram and a 500gb harddisk. I want to speed things up with a SSD. Has any one used a intel 330 or intel 520 120gb ssd. Have you had any compatibility issues or bsods freezes or any of that annoying stuff. I really need some user reviews because i cant find anything useful on the net.

    Thanks guys

    Fan noise issue

Laptop just completed its 3 years with not that good experience.
This is the second time the fan is going mad and creating lot of noise. Motherboard (BIOS gone), screen(dead pixel) has already been replaced. Not at all a good experience with Dell products.

Just to keep laptop alive for some more time.
Can anything be done to reduce the fan noise. It's so annoying. Even a single browser open and no other app make the fan start and noise.

    Thanks
