    I have a Dell Precision 7710,
keyboard after a certain time turns off by itself,
the problem is not detected by Dell tests
after restarting the computer, the keyboard works for a few minutes
    and it turns off again

Try to reproduce the issue outside of your main environment. Boot a Linux USB drive, or just sit in the BIOS setup screen for a while, and see if the keyboard is still non-functional after a few minutes.

If you are able to reproduce the problem, then it is probably a hardware issue. Try each of these solutions in turn.
    1. Re-seat the keyboard cable connection to the motherboard.
    2. Replace the keyboard. (Replacements are readily available on eBay.)
    3. Replace the motherboard.

If you are not able to reproduce the problem, then it is likely some kind of issue within your current environment/OS (Windows?), you might find better help in a Windows forum.

as a diagnosis, does an external keyboard via usb work for extended period? If the external still fails then it's not a problem with internal keyboard or internal keyboard connection, I think then it would be OS or motherboard. I'm also curious if the internal keyboard works in BIOS for extended period as Aaron suggested trying.

    Yes? USB keyboard works?

I wish you well. I've had this happen on an m6500 where i would have non responding keyboard, then I'd replace with new internal keyboard. Then year later keyboard again not responsive. Replace keyboard.

Then it fails again three months later. Gave up and used external only. Then i decided to try original internal again and bam!... it's working again.

In my situation i think it's poor pcb connecting to the keyboard on our old m6500. Might be same in yours it bad ribbon or ribbon is not fully seated in ribbon cable socket flap.

If this were a newer laptop, such as yours, can you return it

    or

Try booting from USB Linux system, (suggested earlier) s ee what happens. If works extended period then reinstall Windows

    Or

    Simply reinstall Windows

    Or

replace the motherboard and fully reinstall Windows.

I believe that the steps that I listed above basically fully exhaust your options. First, you need to determine if the keyboard is similarly non-functional in an environment other than your main OS install. That will point you to whether you need to be replacing hardware or reinstalling Windows. There's no other quick fix.

Check the warranty status on your 7710. All units should have three-year warranty at minimum. Motherboard replacement may be free.
