    Looks like dell has removed configurator on 7540/7740 models. As of now you can only choose pre-built units. Does anyone else experience this?

    Just type "Dell 7540" into google. The first result for me takes me directly to the configuration page at https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/sho...on/spd/precision-15-7540-laptop/xctop754015us

    If if Dell wasn't trying to make it hard, this way is still faster than navigating Dell's web site. I spent the past week configuring and re-re-re-configuring a 7740 before finally pulling the trigger, and I always started out navigating through Google. I completely forgot how tedious navigating dell.com could be.

    But I think that from the page you were on you could select one of their preconfigured systems and then change it.

    Does older games work in 4k or are there problems with scaling?

    I want to use the workstation not only for work.
    There older and newer Games (Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron .....)

    Rtx 3000 should have integer scaling. So 4k shouldnt be a problem for 7*40 series.

    Full-screen games should not have scaling issues. They will adjust the screen resolution down to whatever you set in the game settings (or even older ones may just use a fixed resolution).

    I ordered the 7740 and hope its so good like my old Precision M6800

    I chose the smaller 256GB M.2-PCIe-NVMe-Solid-State and want to install the 1TB Samsung 970 Evo myself.
    Its cheaper than the Dell hard drives.

    When i install Win 10 Pro on the 1TB Samsung, can i use the Recovery USB Stick?
    Or should i completely reinstall?

    Is there an sequence to install the drivers?
    CPU, Wlan, GPU?

    You can just clone the old OS to the new drive with Samsung's data migration software.
    https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools/

    If you want to do a new Windows 10 install, grab the latest install media from here.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    Driver install order doesn't matter too much. I say:
    * If RAID is turned on, you will need to provide the Intel Rapid Storage driver at Windows setup time before it will show you any drives to install on
    After Windows install is done:
    * Intel chipset software
    * Intel serial I/O driver (touchpad will not work until you do this)
    * Intel graphics driver (if graphics switching is enabled)
    * Ethernet or Wi-Fi driver to get the system connected to the Internet
    * Run Windows Update, almost all of the rest of the drivers will install automatically
    * Thunderbolt driver & firmware
    * Latest system BIOS
    * ControlVault software (if you have a fingerprint reader)
    * You should be good, but now any other drivers from Dell that you feel that you need

    To add what Aaron44126 said, if you go with RAID, you might have better luck then me, but just note that you will not have option to use all the tools from Samsung, for example you will not be able to do provisioning and other things in the app.
    Normally you should be able to switch in bios and things should work (for me it just BSOD no matter what I tried when switching to ACHI and this was with a cloned SSD; it worked flawlessly with the default RAID setting), Aaron44126 has steps on how to do it, but I exhausted a number of ways and went clean install when switching to ACHI, which is the only way to get all the Samsung app features and monitoring stuff.

    Odd. It does seem like it performs better with Optimus enabled. With AMD switchable graphics enabled on the WX7130 it seems to have about a 3-5% performance hit. It is nice though because the machine runs even cooler and quieter if nothing is using the dedicated card. It seems like the Quadro RTX 4000 would be a $700 upgrade, and there is currently a three week lead time. But the performance difference could be between 30-50%...
