I purchased a monitor directly from Dell. Paid with PayPal, and shortly thereafter received an email asking to verify my order. No big deal, Monoprice did the same thing. I called the phone number provided and was told to simply respond to the email saying that I had authorized the purchase. I did that, but have not received any sort of confirmation. Is this typical on Dell's part? How long does it take to release the order? I paid for expedited shipping with the promise of a delivery date by Monday. When Monoprice asked for verification, I got a response within 2 hours saying everything was kosher.

Hoping to get some feedback from this community as I assume most who have ordered Dell and Alienware products have had to go through the same thing.

Well, despite three phone calls, two emails, and one chat session, Dell automatically cancelled the order. It's all good, though, because I ended up getting it cheaper from Best Buy.

I haven't used PayPal on Dell.com but to prevent fraud it's likely they wait to process the order and require verification. I don't get why after you took the action needed it still didn't go through, and that's poor communication on their part for not being able to clarify the reason. Maybe it wasn't a fraud prevention measure but instead low stock and they wouldn't be able to get the monitor to you in an expedited fashion. Their loss of business, or at least loss in revenue margin because now they have to give Best Buy a cut of the sale and won't get as much money as you were trying to pay them on their own site

I have no doubt it was a security issue. As I said, Monoprice did the same thing when I placed a $300 order with them recently. I'm as perplexed as you as to why after multiple attempts to provide them what they needed, they still did not process/fulfill the order.

I had the same thing happened. After 2 chat sessions (don't bother with it, they can't release the hold through chat) and 3 phone calls, I was able to get it released. Basically they have to have you and your credit card issuer in a 3 way call so they can confirmed the account is good and the address/phone number on file matches the address on your order. A little extreme I think but you don't have a choice if you want them to release the hold or else they will cancel it.
