I have a dell inspiron B130 that will not any farther than the dell logo screen. When the white bar is done loading up it goes into a black screen with a flashing icon in the top left corner of the screen! I tried holding the F2 key for setup and the F12 for boot sequence but nothing. What would the most likely problem be? I was told to go into the bios but it will not let me into anything.

Hmm. Try removing your RAM and other peripherals including battery and then start the machine only using AC power. It could be one of the components that might be causing it to not go past POST.

Also, try to see if you can boot of a CD (Windows Recovery CD) will do fine. Don't reinstall windows, just see if it boots up.

Or, call Dell Tech support...not the best option, but will work after having you go bald (just kidding!)

I removed the memory, the battery, the optical drive and harddrive and when I tried to power up the computer the power light came on for a few secons then went out! I put only the memory back in and it went to the post screen and done the same as before. The guy I got this from said he thought it was the mobo? Would the screen even light up and show the dell logo if the mobo was bad? When I put in an original windows installation disc the drives spins and the harddrive light lights up for a bit and then goes out but I can still hear the optical drive spinning.

Could this be a heat thing? Could the processor be shutting down because it's not making good contact with the heat sink?

I have removed the the cover for the heatsink after it has been on for awhile and the heatsink very warm so I think it is making good contact. Just can't get it to go any farther than the start up screen?

I was told this could be the blue screen of death? But the reading I done on the subject says there will be an error message come up. Mine goes from the dell logo page to the screen with with the flashing rectangular icon in the top left corner of the screen! Any ideas what I could try to get it to go into the setup page or the boot menu page?

Tried the key combinations. Preparing to enter setup lights up momentarily then switches to the screen with the flashing icon. About ready to give up! Is there a simple was to know if it is the mobo?

I don't know of one other than switching out the motherboard.
However I came across this when searching for B130 motherboards on ebay.

I don't know anything about them other than what's on their auction page.
But if you can't find any other way to fix it...

Thanks for the ebay info but I already have to much invested in this dell so it will go into the trash
