If it's not thermal throttling maybe it's a problem with the charger and thus power throttling. Are you able to get it replaced or check with someone else's? I've seen thermal throttling due to PCH temperatures on Alienwares, but I do not know if this is the case here.

I pull out the 2TB drive from Seagate external HDD, unfortunately, it is 9.5mm, G7 only accepts 7mm HDD.

My warning at the end of the G7 review was that eventually it’ll need a repast. At least the longer you wait the better the improvement! These are notorious for this.

Hi everyone, just as a warning: I don't know much about the technical and detailed know-how of gaming laptops, so please forgive me if it takes me a bit to catch on.

I've had my G7 since August 2018, and it has an Intel Core i7 8750h processor, Nvidia GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU, and 16 GB of RAM. For the most part it works fine, no major issues, but it doesn't run as smooth on battery power, and gets pretty warm with a bit of occasional fan noise during light tasks like web browsing (mainly occurs when plugged in, but still gets somewhat warm on battery power too). I'm a little concerned about undervolting my G7 as well as replacing the thermal paste (since I don't know how it works), so I figured that this was the best thread to post about it, and hopefully get some helpful tips and advice about undervolting and thermal pasting from you all! Thank you in advance!

On a side note: I've done no modifications to my G7.

Hello, if anybody got their G7 with i9-8950HK and GTX 1060, please tell me the mainboard model number? You can find it by using Intel XTU and look at System Info tab. Im trying to fix my crapped G7 and Dell refused to fix mine, so I will fix it myself. Thank you very much.
For anyone wondering, FDMYT is i7-8750H + 1060 board for anyone want to order it from Dell or from eBay.
