Every post I read about Dell machines, I see "take out the extended warranty"!!

Dell offers many different warranties and different lengths. I see a laptop being usable for 3-4 years and wonder if the 3 year is enough. Any thoughts, experiences, recommendations for mail-in service vs on-site service. Thanks!!

I personally ordered the three year extended warranty just to be safe but more then likely all the problems you will face will come within the first year, and within 3 years your laptop will be surpassed by the new ones so by then you will probably be looking for a new laptop. So to be safe I would say get the 3 year to be on the safe side! but if your on a budget then get the 1 year.

On the way I hope!!! Dell Inspiron 9100
    P4 3.0, 15.4 UXGA Wide Screen, 512 DDR SDRAM 400MHz, 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, 60 GB Ultra ATA HD, 24x CD-RW/DVD, TrueMobile1400 WLAN!

I have similar advice, but I would get a 2 or 3. All my Dell problems came after the year was up.

You CAN purchase the extended warranty AFTER you've bought the laptop, during the first year: they send you several offers to do this during the first year.

I got notices for our servers a few months before the 1 years expired. You can call sales and ask about offers as well.
