But from these last videos, it sadly does seem to have a very GTA like vibe. I don't know what to say, I also hope it won't be GTA with more lights and futuristic stuff.
I think the driving aspect makes it look so. The gunplay and choices you make im sure will make it feel different.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, people called RDR "Grand Theft Horse" and Witcher 3 is a departure from that. There will be character/weapon/skill customization a plenty. I think over time the lines are burring to some extent between GTA style games and first person RPG style games since the Deus Ex vs GTA3 days of old as they both evolve to incorporate some of the things the other does. It seems to have plenty to set it apart and have a style and gameplay element of it's own.
Agreed, the reason there was a split between first person shooters and open world games in the first place was because they lacked the processing grunt needed to have seamless open world environments. And with hardware getting ever more powerful I'd expect all games to be open world in the future.
I sincerely hope not. I enjoy open-world games as much as the next guy, but there's something to be said for more focused games like Metro 2033 and the Deus Ex series, and the mixed metroidvana approach used by games like Prey (2017) and Control.
True, although it didn't entirely abandon its roots, and I very much enjoyed the mix of both sandbox levels and linear levels. I see Metro Exodus as a shining example of how both formats can offer excellent gameplay.
Yeah, that's sort of what I meant. They can always design levels to have a linear feel as well as have atmospheric open world environments to expand the narrative.
God of war on PS4 did this really well. I wish Sony would bring that masterpiece to PC for all to experience.
