    Hi all,
Been a while since I posted here.
I am looking into making some all copper GPU and CPU heatsinks for my R2 and wanted to see if anyone here was interested.
Still need to get materials so will probably have something together in a month or two. At this stage I am thinking that $100-150 per heatsink will be reasonable seeing as they will be labour intensive to make.

So let me know if your interested, if there is interest I'll get extra material

Cicichen on eBay has been making custom heatsinks for the older Alienware laptops for a while. His copper GPU heatsink has 6 heat pipes and sells for $77USD plus shipping so you'd have to be around that mark. I'm not sure if he makes a custom CPU heatsink though.

Thanks for letting me know, there is no cpu heatsink for the R2 cpu that I can find. I cant really compete with $77 I'm already over CA$50 for materials.

Very interesting to see what they have done though, I am surprised that they stacked the heatpipes, my plan is to flatten the heatpipe less and get 4 or 5 pipes in with the extra width saved.
The research I have done says that flattening a heatpipe more than 50% of its diamater reduces the heat capacity significantly, the trade off is obviously less contact area for the heatpipe to transfer energy.

It will be interesting to see if there is any difference. Does anyone have a 6 pipe heatsink on their M18x with before and after temps?

I'd also like to know if the custom heatsink makes any real difference. I'm not sure if anyone has the 6-pipe one but maybe @ssj92 grabbed one.

The issue with his heatsinks in so far as my experience with them for the Alienware 17 R1 is they arent level. Also you need to bypass PWM to even attempt seeing a difference in temperature as, if you have a better heatsink then the fan just runs slower and temps remain the same lol.

You mean the heatsink/pipes are twisted or the plate for cooling the GPU/ram etc isnt flat?
Yeh load temps are were the difference will be seen!!

I haven't gotten any of the custom made heatsinks for any of my aliens. From what I've seen contact issues are the worse problem. The OEM ones work well but if you can beat it and make one that's properly flat then maybe I'll take a CPU and GPU one from you. :D
