    Hi everyone

I'm trying to overclock my i7 4720HQ with the Intel XTU utility.

Without changing anything, the app often shows "Current Limit Throttling" while running a benchmark (but the indicator doesn't appear when running stress test).

There are so many related Current Limit Throttling and Power Limit Throttling from the web, but I haven't read one thread that applies.

So to keep it simple, I have 3 questions:
    1) Why does Current Limit Throttling popup only when running a benchmark, but not during a stress test?
    2) What settings do I need to change to make sure Current Limit Throttling doesn't pop up?
    3) Most important question, what settings do I need to change to make sure Current Limit Throttling pops up all the time?

I think from the answers to these three questions I can sort out my problem.

    Thank you for your time

Have you tried setting iccmax to 200-250A to see if it helps?

You can't really OC the 4720HQ..

Best you can do is up the current limit to some 150A, bump the Turbo Boost time limits to the max, and undervolt your CPU, and max the core ratio sliders, there is 2 free bins, aka it will run at 3.6Ghz.

    Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know the answer to (3)? Because I can adjust the current limit all the way to the right and all the way to the left, hit Apply, run a benchmark, but nothing changes. The same score, the same utilisation profile, the same core frequency, the same package TDP.

Change turbo boost time, its a locked CPU so it will eventually be TDP limited, mine does the same, after the time allowed for turbo boost expires it goes into current limit to meet the 47W TDP limit.
