As the title suggests, what is the best position to place the fans on my cooling pad for the XPS 15, I have done some research and came up with nothing.

As far as I can tell the 2 fans on the laptop blow hot air out,
My cooling pad is the Cooler master notepal u2 and it blows up air into the notebook.

So were should I position the fans? Right under the laptop fans or in the middle?

(I already have laptop and cooling pad, please don't state how this isn't very efficient and I should just use undervolt ect)

The XPS fans blow out through vents near the bottom of the windscreen. Therefore it is OK for the cooling pad to blow cold air against the bottom of the computer.

Your idea will be helpful. The 9550 air intakes are at the bottom of the laptop on either side of the grills.

You will see that some users have had significant improvement just holding the laptop off the desk so those intakes can pull in more air. Your cooling pad should provide even better results:

In the future - you will see ideas on easy undervolting in that thread (and user EASON's signature has a link to an easy intro guide he wrote). The thread also shows how to upgrade thermal paste-pads.

It doesn't really matter where the fans are placed. On a laptop like the XPS with mid-tier GPU hardware, the biggest benefit of a laptop cooler is simply just elevating the laptop so that it gets airflow on the bottom of the laptop. The positioning of fans on the laptop cooler is pretty much irrelevant.

So, put the fans wherever you want. Because it won't make a difference.
