Nope, 8700K is fine in the P870DM-G motherboard.

4.3Ghz on 6 cores is stock for 8700K. But, no need to stop there. The limitations are thermal management capacity more so than motherboard power handling capacity.

Here are some recent benchmarks with my P870DM-G running the 8700K at 5.0GHz.

Do you know if this works in the P870DM3?

With the correct firmware and CPU mods it will. @Prema and @bloodhawk are running 8700K in their P870DM3s. IMHO, the P870DM3 is a better product than the P870DM-G. I would not recommend purchasing the DM-G any more because the MXM slots are all screwed up (in the wrong spots and not wired properly for 1080, cannot support 1080 SLI, etc.) and the GPU cooling is grossly inferior to the vapor chamber. I have a DM-G only as a novelty and proof of concept project. The extreme hardware mods needed for running just one 1080 in a DM-G are a real show-stopper, and I have no interest whatsoever in 1070 notebook GPU(s).

I'm guessing since the 9900k is 95w TDP it wont be a problem for the DM3 with the proper microcodes. Or is it too early to tell? I'm very interested in this upgrade but am not sure it will be possible.
