Is it hard or can you spread it when it's like that using the cotton swab?

when I spread it it spreads but some places become dark and metal does not want to stick there any more

Sounds like contamination from dirt or some such then. It can do that.

could be that my ISO spirit is not clean enough? it's pretty old and was used for long time, could have absorbed some dirt

I have seen that reaction when some paste gets mixed in, tends to impact the cotton buds too.

do you mean that the cotton pad could be the source of contamination?

It could be, dust etc gets in. The wrong stuff could cause oxidation.

its really weird, cause after I remove the CLU from the DIE it leaves dark residual that is really hard to remove. like a burn-in
