If I was sure that things will go that way I would not have bought the KM-G, things to consider:

Even if it comes in the next Clevo DTR the socket 1700 may be delayed until next year, especially in the Clevo. In fact I would be surprised about a Clevo DTR with a new platform being released so soon.

The other scenario is that it may never come because of:
    MXM dying out
Clevo not releasing this kind of modular product anymore
Clevo releasing a DTR with AMD instead of Intel chipset

So hard to give any advice if people are looking for something with a certain urgency.

IF Clevo releases a worthy and notably superior successor with @Prema working his magic I will be very happy and unfortunately for my wallet tempted to upgrade.

I have also looked into buying x170, as I need to replace my 11 years old Clevo W870cu (keyboard stops working about every hour and laptop needs to be unplugged from power to fix it. It's likely a motherboard issue). I want again a machine that will last 10 years. Weight is not a huge problem as it would be moved around mostly in the house.

At present x170 is only offered with Ultra-HD display with meager 60Hz (newer 120Hz version of that display exists, but is not on offer). Intel Core i9-11900K is still 14nm and with Alder lake round the corner it's worth to wait. PCIe 5.0 for nvme drives would be amazing. I would even welcome Ryzen CPU in laptop but AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with only PCIe 3.0 is a big joke. For me it will most likely be choice between MSI GT76 Titan or Clevo X170 - whoever is faster to roll out Alder lake based laptop.

I think in future to upgrade to a new motherboard and cpu in the same chasics. 6 month is too much time for me. The psyche sits down.

6 month cycles were more of a thing 16 years ago.

If you want to overclock, go for the i7 11700KF.

If you want good stock performance and don't want to do any tweaking, go for the i9 11900F.

In either case, get the i7 11700KF if it costs less.

The i7 11700KF may be able to do 5.2 GHz on all cores.

Remember the turbo is just one or two core boost.

Top bins won't mean too much under stock power limits, see the gamers nexus reviews.
