The main issue is the memory bus width with the larger chips. Then you put cooling on top of that.

Nobody can help you with that decision. There is always something better over the horizon but the jury is still out as to whether it will be Alder lake or something else that you will want at the end of the year.

I would personally have recommended to wait for Alder Lake, but as 1610ftw said, there is always something new coming out. The best hardware will always be demoted to second tier or worse in the future. That's the nature of technological progress.

Don't feel bad if your hardware is no longer state of the art a year from now. If the hardware you got is significantly better than what you had before, then it's worth it. What matters most is how long the hardware will last you.

For example, I got the Alienware Ranger (Alienware 17 R1/Alienware M17X R5) in my signature a few months after Skylake was released. Although the Haswell CPU in my Ranger was already 2 generations behind when I got it, it can still handle any of my workloads to this day. Although I probably won't be able to achieve 120 fps with it in newer open world games that can effectively utilize 8 CPU cores, even with a powerful enough GPU, it's had a very good run.

In short, buy what you need when you need it, and don't worry about better hardware coming out the next year. You can play the waiting game forever. Get hardware that will last you a good long while so it's a good value. Just because the hardware becomes obsolete to the market doesn't mean it'll become obsolete to you as well.

With Alder lake we will get new socket 1700 who probably will last minimum 2 gen. Some say 3. We get DDR5 and PCIe 5.0

New socket means you can upgrade if Clevo let you do that. And @Prema is still around and can make his magic. Socket 1200, DDR4 and PCIe 4.0 is yesterdays tech. And already near its end of life. Only a few months away.
