Exactly what I was thinking ! I have been waiting almost 8 months now for my new laptop (many years now for my first Clevo laptop with powerful Desktop CPU and GPUs). First I was waiting for the Pascal GPUs and then I heard about the pitfalls of Skylake and hoped that Kaby lake would fix them. Also the news of native Thunderbolt 3.0 support, new 120HZ screens, DP 1.3 etc. etc., I waited until CES 2017. Then I found my dream configuration over at mySN with this new upcoming P870KM and was too impatient to wait. Thanks to you and other nice members of this very useful forum, I will now collect more information, ask around and make a more informed decision in time :)

I can only say that you can't go wrong with obsidian for their customer support. Also they offer delidding on their K series CPUs to further lower temperatures. That's something you can do yourself, but it's nice to have it done and covered by warranty.

Too bad they don't offer the prema bios. In Europe there are few resellers who offers them for now.

Thanks for the reference! I had a look at Dream Machines, looks interesting. However, they don't seem to have the new P870KM models yet (not even on pre-order). I know there isn't a huge difference from the previous model, but I am still leaning towards the Z270 chipset for the extra lanes and being the "latest".

Lets see if mySN can provide me a discount in their pricing. If not, may be I will cancel my order and wait a bit until all the other Clevo resellers in Europe also has this model. mySN has a promised date of end of this month for delivering this. The new chassis (according to their website) is expected to arrive by 26.Jan.
Looking at production times i think everyone is in the same boat, we´re all getting them by the end of the month!

maybe similar but not the same.

Thanks everyone for your support and good information. The order is cancelled. I will try to contact the various resellers here and see what they have in offer.
I understand the importance of having a PREMA bios to unlock the full potential of this laptop. Also delidding, undervolting etc. I have waited so long, I guess I can wait another few weeks :)

    You mean manufacturer warranty right?
Because let´s not forget CLEVO is just a manufacturer, when you buy a branded laptop the client does have the right to 2 years commercial warranty in EU, no matter what the brand/store sells you, they still have to honor the 2 year commercial warranty. If they sell with a PREMA BIOS, the client does not even need to care about it.
It´s the same for the Delidded CPUs, Intel does not honor warranty for a delidded CPU, so it´s on our (store/brand) head, if it fails, we still need to honor the commercial warranty to the costumer.
People mixing up "CLEVO" with the actual store brand is like mixing up a Apple product with a "Foxconn", makes little sense.
Now, how do brands manage the warranty with CLEVO after adding a Premabios, well... that´s another subject, and matters not for the costumer.

If something is wrong with one of my products i´m the one who needs to say "I´m sorry" to our costumer, i´m the one who needs to feel ashamed and needs to find solutions and talk to CLEVO to try to fix it. I can´t blame it on CLEVO. For me, they are just a factory that manufacturers my products. I think brands and stores need to be more demanding and maybe send more information and work more close with CLEVO, it is our responsibility since we are the ones in touch with the costumers.

Only when relying on your supplier...when carrying your own stock (direct import like Eurocom, Prostar, Sager etc) and/or handle warranty in-house then that would be another story...
e.g if a system bricks they fix it themselves instead relying on Clevo or a 'middleman'.

No problem at all. I spoke to the sales rep who relied to you, I don't have a full understanding of the discussions but he said that of the 7 emails you sent the first one was misplaced which I think is the one you said you hadn't had a reply to. Yes my nudging them (forum effect) made them check over all the emails and they found the first unanswered one had somehow slipped thorugh but all the others were ok. anyway, sorry the first one was missed.

Price isn't everything; though you may be getting the same hardware the company setup, testing, quality of the build and many other factors should be taken into account - as well of warranty, service and so on ;-)

P.S. company reps aren't allowed to send unsolicited pms to members on here regarding purchases and pricing.........unless you contact them first they can't contact you, just be aware.

Well watch this space then, or rather watch our websites over the comming weeks - we've been working on lots of nice surprises for a while now :)

@XMG I really appreciate your prompt responses and all the useful information ! Thank you. Yes, I understand from the barrage of emails I received in the last 2 days that you had a busy schedule in the last 2 weeks due to DreamHack in Leipzig.

I just want to clarify something important - Price was not the only factor that made me change my mind. It is also about options and customizing. Small things like choice of thermal paste, faster RAM etc. are missing from your options. I trust that you have good experience and the options that you recommend are good, however sometimes customers prefer a different one. I can of course do these myself, however I am not much of a system hacker (at least not when it comes to laptops, desktops I have assembled many). I like to have a decent configuration all set and ready to roll. Regarding PREMA custom bios, undervolting/overclocking the CPU etc., - I'm also not so keen about this, but it got me thinking ! :)

Anyways, as I said - price is not the only factor. Quality, service and more options to configure in the build are also equally important. I will definitely be watching your website the same way I am watching the other resellers ! I need my new laptop also for private work (I am an Engineer), so I won't be waiting too long. In the next few weeks, you might hear from me again, who knows ! ;)

@Rynaus No problem at all, I just replied to your pm and addressed the points you raised including the memory options, paste and son on. [ for other members ] We're fully aware that customers want more options and that's what I was hinting at when I mentioned that we would have some "nice surprises" available soon ;-)

Some options, such as 3000MHz memory would be easy for us to offer, but considering the number of laptops we build every day we must have utmost confidence in the stability of the product, the differing quality from batch to batch and there's lots more factors to take into consideration.

As mentioned, lots of the options and enhancements that people talk about on nbr are comming to an XMG laptop near you soon - in the comming weeks you'll start to see what we have been working on !!!!!!!
