Hello, I have bought a Clevo P775DM1 laptop. Well, not a laptop yet to be honest. It's all empty and I need parts for it. I know the CPU that I can use, probably going for i7 6700. But before I invest in everything I want to test it, if it's working at all. So I was planning to buy or find some old MXM card locally that fits the size, will it work? How can I know which MXM GPU is supported?

P.S. I found a used GTX 965m for cheap, will it work with this model?

Or you save a bit more and flash a custom bios from dsanke and go for 8th gen for it with a more powerful gpu like a 1070 for example :)
BIOS thread here where you can ask questions or if you have any doubt:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...clevo-laptops-rtx-cards-now-supported.825558/
    And latest BIOS from dsanke:
    https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1ZRLYpWUCwY9bsUpyEIVMrKQz7ID2JzEi
Instructions on how to flash the bios and the whole procedure are in OP (open post / first page).
As I said, I'd consider anything better than the 965 because its a bit outdated at this point so in my opinion it's a waste of money but of course, it's not my wallet on the table, just an opinion :)

Something like a 1060/1070 would partner well.

Hey, first of all, thanks for the advice. I was initially thinking to put QQLT(i7 8th/9th gen engineering sample) processor with bios mod. I couldn't find any post about it, so I thought it wasn't possible, thanks and I'll definitely consider this.

Secondly, I'm wondering if all the cards that have the same MXM format (MXM 3.0 type-b as I understand) will work with the laptop? I found a 330w power supply for the laptop, will it be enough for 1060/1070 + i7 8700? Don't these GPUs require an additional power connection from the motherboard?

You will need a standard form factor card, a lot of the later clevo machines use a different form factor so these won't work. A single 330w should be fine for that combo. If you go 8 cores and power unlock both that and the GPU you would want the power splitter and a pair of power supplies.

Just be sure on your exact model of p775dm as it makes a difference. The later ones had the new non MXM standard shape.

is it possible to test the laptop power on without mxm card? Will it give any image?

No, it needs an mxm card for output.

    Piggybacking on this...

I've got a 775 with a bricked mxm 980m (bad temperature reporting, won't stay booted long enough to flash vbios), and I'll like to PXE boot to use the motherboard as a headless server. Is that hopeless?
