4940MX is mobile CPU, build on Haswell microarchitecture, works on FCPGA946 socket.
4960X is high-end desktop CPU, build on Ivy Bridge-E microarchitecture, works on FCLGA2011 socket.
Names is only one thing, what is similar for this two CPU-s.

A 1060 would be my choice if I was embarking on a project but even a single 980M would do better than the two cards you have now.

Hi there man!! i can say that i had the same problem as u have!!!
I've changed my crossfire radeon to an 980m everything is working fine the only problem for me was the brightness, cause my bios did not support it, but that can be fixed with autohotkey and a good script.

I'm thinking about going for the NVIDIA-GTX-1070-N17E-G2 but i have a problem... The card consumes 150W and i don't know if we can use it with only one power brick..

Did u see bennyg thread about this??

4960X is a desktop CPU that runs on the FCLGA2011 socket. Your system uses an FCPGA946 socket for mobile CPUs; you won't be able to install a 4960x.

There's the 4940MX, but it's not a big enough performance difference to justify the cost of upgrading.

If by "one power brick" you mean a single AC adapter then this should not be the problem, as two GTX 780m's should in theory consume more energy than a single 1070....

The powerlimit of the mainboard for a single card (or single mxm slot) will (in my eyes) determine if such an upgrade is possible.

I might totally be wrong so take that more as a personal opinion than as a fact.

A single 1060 (120W I think) should be easier for the motherboard.

Two 980m's are certainly better than the 780m's but still can't match a 1060, especially when SLI is not supported by a game...

A single 330W brick should handle a single 1070 no issue.

    hey there man!
I did not really see it, thanks for posting this will look into it. Its quite tempting even with a single 1070. I believe as Meaker pointed it out a single 330w should handle the card.

But I wonder how our laptop will handle the 1060 or the 1070 temps, or will the fans run at highest speed all the time :/
