Introduce a unified vapor chamber for both cpu and gpu with radiator optimized for the space in the chassis and 3 fans.
That would be a huge step up from what's currently in the x170.

I take it you don't really work with laptops if you think that at max the LG Gram only needs a 20th of the power of a high end gaming machine and that cooling capabilities only depend on weight :D

Kidding aside the difference in power consumption is not that large and closer to one 10th as the LG Gram actually consumes up to 34.8W according to notebookcheck. It does that while still staying very quiet with small fans and rather small ventilation openings and a rather tiny lightweight cooling system that wasn't exactly designed in the best possible way but more to get the rather easy job done. So no we do not need that much weight I'd say as there is room for improvement in multiple areas :)

It's only a bit over an order of magnitude is still not much of an argument :p

Cooling us a function of airflow, fin density materials and transport methods. You can have the best transport methods in the world but you will need airflow and fin surface area.

All have implications of cost, size and weight.

Problems tend to get quite different when you change the order of magnitude you are working with.

Ie lifting 10kg is very different to lifting 100kg.

I would agree that if both were passive designs it would be much harder to deliver the needed increase in cooling but as you say you can do a lot with added airflow and that can be helped by both openings in the case and high performance fans. I am also sure that with the right ultra high cost materials weight could go down but price would go up a lot so obviously there are constraints in that regard, too.

And now I will leave it to Clevo and the X170 to give us a new example of an order of magnitude higher power consumption delivered to us with about a threefold increase in weight and that is including screen, case and keyboard ;)

And you can do more if you put more money into the cooling design. Size doesn’t always be the limiting factor. The improvements often come in revision 2:D
