Yes you need around 1.087v to get that on the core.

While I agree that an M18x purchase does not automatically qualify for "money wasted", I don't think any of our laptops are outperforming an equally priced desktop built for the same purpose (benchmarking, gaming, etc).
And you have SonDa5's build incorrect, according to the link it's a 7950CF.

Buying equivalent components, it doesn't take a lot of effort to spend as much or even more than the M18x on a good gaming desktop. If you cut corners on quality, you can save a few bucks.
