NVIDIA. Their drivers are historically far superior, and more games say "NVIDIA, The way it's meant to be played" ;), they say that for a reason. Sure AMD may beat the NVIDIA at synthetic benchmarks but:
"Synthetic Benchmarks are not a measure of true real-world performance"

They are the same heat sink according to what I have been told by Dell/Alienware. Sometimes they do change a part number of an existing part to associate it with a new model without changing the design.

The only reason you are seeing the 680M and 580M part number being the same is that Alienware never provided a part number for the 680M heat sink. After being told by Alienware that they are identical parts, I added those to the parts list using the 580M heat sink part number. I could have used the 675M part number... but, 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

Perfectly legitimate question and, as usual, your astute powers of observation detected something that warranted clarification. :D Asking is a lot more convenient than ordering the wrong part by mistake.

Interesting comparison of my M18x with a desktop PC on HWBOT...

The moral to the story is, don't ever let anyone tell you that you wasted money on an M18x and could have had a cheaper desktop that runs way faster. That's not true 100% of the time and you have a beast to be truly proud of. People that make those carte blanche comments are simply exposing their ignorance about the Alienware M18x.

If I'm reading that right ^ you got a 15k 3dmark11 with a 400+ MHz overclock? Wow. I've really got to get on the ball with those svl7 bios mods. What were your temps like?

Temps are very good. Especially GPU temps are not much different than stock.
