Windows is a shocker for stuff like this, my mother's laptop had a fully functional DVD drive and Windows 10 installed an update and all of a sudden it doesn't recognise the DVD drive. Go back and install Windows 7 driver exe and the drive is recognised, Windows updates again and it's gone. I'm well aware I'm the odd one out letting Windows update but it's not my machine so I don't make the decisions about it.

As i said, there where no updates, so i still don't know why it suddenly stopped working.
The laptop was connected to the wall, so energy is at full power, all the usb power savings are disabled.
I think its a intermittent hardware fault as the usb (trackpad included) on the keyboard dock also stops working from time to time.
To prevent this error i re seated every flat cable in the dock and in the tablet, but that did not cover the fault.
Its very strange, sometimes it works well for several days, other times it manifests after some minutes.
Take the battery out in the tablet and re insert it, and it works again.

Every discussion here ends with "Win10 must die". Win10 haters :))
Don't you want to use your warranty?

No warranty, bought it second hand 8 K hours on the counter.
CF 20 is definitively not as tough as a CF 19

Btw, i am not a Win 10 hater, i love it, but it has its faults, just like Apple OS and Linux, you have to live with it.

I thought all Toughbooks have 5 years warranty. Maybe there is a sense to check it and replace this CF-20 with a bugs free one :))

There is a 5 year warranty if you have the original proof and bill of the purchase witch i don't have.
Anyway, it is usable as the tablet has no faults, only with the keyboard dock attached.
Things that work then are keyboard, extra battery, SD card, lan, vga and hdmi.
Usb (on the dock) and touchpad work until they stop and i have to pull out the battery.
