    Hello there !

I salvage an old CF-19 Mk1 from the Harley-Davidson dealership I worked for, in Paris France.
Since then, I've been trough a lot of reading on this board, regarding various problems. Most of them solved, thanks to your help.

    First some infos :
    CF-19EH3E6TW
    Bios V1.10L13
    Embedded Controller V1.00L11
    16960 Hours on the clock

I installed a fresh copy of XP SP3 on the HDD of the Toughbook. Everything was fine exept the screen seems to loose the calibration between boot.

Then I replace the HDD by a Crucial SSD and a fesh copy of Mint Linux. The screen worked bu was impossible to calibrate.

And as I saw people using W7 on this model I gived it a try. So, SSD, fresh Win7 install and followed step by step the guide I found here. Except for one step : bios update. This computer seems to be impossible to upgrade wether I tried win xp, win7 or Dos. Nothings work.
So i decieded to go on anyway. I tried a lot of different TS drivers, from Fujitsu's website, Panasonic's one. Nothing work. The first click is interpreted as a drag selection and no other click is registered by the screen. But the cursor keep tracking.

Then I read something about the difference in keeping calibration information between Windows and Linux so I decided to roll back to Mint. WItch I did. But then more strange behavior from the TS. It registered the first click as a drag selection and won't register any more clik (just like on W7) BUT won't register no more the left click from the touchpad. Forcing me to reboot with the keyboard. While trying to manualy calibrate the screen with the calibrator in verbose mod, it said that my Fujitsu USB Touchscreen was not an USBtouscreen. Weel...

I oubviously began to suspect a hardware defect. So I check the connetions behind the screen. Everything is in order. Then rolled back to the HDD with XP Sp3, on wich the TS was working. But... do not work any more. It registers, again, the first click as a drag selection, won't register any more click but the cursor is stuck, fickering, in the middle of the screen. Even when trying to use the touchpad. Forcing me, again, to reboot with the keyboard.

Well. After two weeks of reading and tinkering. I'm giving up.
Am I missing something obvious ?
Do you think, as I do know, that this touchscreen is now taking is retirement from life as a touch device ?

    Thanks for reading me :)

My guess you have a bad touchscreen. The MK1 is known for this.

Thank you for your feedback. It confort's me in stopping to tinker it.
It's up to me to decide if it is worth repairing.

CF-19 MK1 had the old style screen that delaminated....but if it works:

W7 likes a tablet selection in the bios. Commonly called VISTA bios. If all fails it can be changed back. Mint might be looking for a tablet bios as well.

CF-19MK1 has no way to switch so it requires a tiny upgrade.

Update must be made from XP or Windows....or Vista:D

I tried every bios XP, Vista from WIndows and dos. Windows keep saying that the Installation is incomplete and under DOS... if I remember right, it didn't recognize my CF-19 as a Panasonic product.

I tried for the third time the power pull reset (thanks to your signature) and nothing new. The cursor is still stuck in the middle of the screen. I have to deactivate te HID mouse to regain control of the touchpad.

I guess I will have to learn how to live without a touchscreen :D

    verify the hardware problem

    install xp
make sure you have xp bios
    install xp bios
    install xp driver pack

    check touchscreen
    replace bad touchscreen
    install vista upgrade
    install vista bios
    install vista driver pack
    verify everything works
    install win 7
verify everything works. It probably will with the vista drivers.

I'm sure it worked with XP. And it always did as it was shipped (and used) to my dealership with XP.
The working windows XP install is still on the old HDD and it do not work any more with this HDD.

Appart from the aliexpress touchscreen I do not really see the point of spending that much money (considering the age of the computer).

I guess they are not that good...

If you like the CF-19 form factor...there are many newer models available for a great price...
