Yea, i would not feel safe buying a salvaged car...

and this is a stupid question, but can you actually fix the car and make it a clear title again? (or atleast be able to register it)

Nope, once a salvage title you can't go back. I think if your smart enough and know the model of car well enough then it isn't to bad to have a salvaged car, that is if you can get it for a great deal. But like others have said, they are most certainly more of a project than a car.

But how do you put insurance on a "salvaged" brought back from the dead car?

as far as titles go. not sure, but if you do end up fixing it, doesn't it turn into a rebuilt title?

Once a car is declared totaled, it will never have a clean title again. It can not be registered again, until it has gotten a full inspection by the DMV. Once inspected you will be issued a salvage or rebuilt or reconstructed title (name differs by state).

Probably the best type of salvage title to get is one that has been vandalized and has never been in an accident. As long as its fixed up, and everything looks good, its hard to go wrong with a vandalized salvaged car.
