as my recent posts have shown, im running an Alienware 18, with a Gtx 1060, so ive got an open bay. if i picked up say a 770M or 780M, could I use it for physx? (yes i know not many games have PhysX support)

only way to run the 1060 is in SG mode (switchable graphics) but I dont have a spare gpu to test if it would actually work at the moment. :S

I don't see why not, unless its hidden in the driver settings, but this would be kind of useless in all honesty. If you wanted to test it out, just get the cheapest GTX MXM card compatible

If I remember correctly, @Raidriar told me connecting two GPUs while using Optimus mode (SG) will not work.

He told me something similar but it wasn't definitive just that it was unlikely. He also hates the 18 with a passion so it's hard to not ignore the bias at times.

I thought it was sli that wouldnt work, so i was thinking possibly since the pc isnt really relying on the second one at all, and just using it for physx effects it might :S

And it really isnt useless, since if people have two mxm ports and one empty, you may aswell fill it. Plus buying the cheapest card would actually have negative effects, making your main card run worse so they run at similar speeds

I think populating both slots, SLI or not, setting SG mode will result in 8 beeps.

Keep in mind, setting we now use were not available without the unlocked bios. Dell hid those things because it causes instability. Itially system was working with PEG and then, with software intervention, would switch to internal graphics.

If you really want to try it, buy the cheapest nVidia you could get, and set it as physics card. Though not many games support it, 1060 can do both flawlessly without any help I believe.
