Is there any reason I can't re-route the bluetooth to the pass thru antenna on the back of a toughbook? My TB is a CF30KTPAX2M, but I don't think that matters.

Bluetooth is just a 2.4ghz signal.
    Some/most Wifi is 2.4ghz signal.

Correct me if I'm wrong: the pass thru will use the internal antenna UNTIL it senses an external antenna hooked up, at which point it will use the pass thru/external antenna?

I want to use an external antenna to better connect to my rc helicopter gyro hc05's for adjusting settings.

I hope everyone's holiday celebrations were great! and have a safe and happy new year!

On a CF 30, it is a simple mechanical switch inside the passthru connector.
Connect what ever radio you want on it on the inside. Frequency makes no difference.

Now a CF 31 is a different story as it is electronically controlled.

You, sir, are a braniac! You can do anything you like!

I wouldn't think you'd pick up much range though. But please keep us posted.

Shawn... Splain please... It is a mechanical connection (Inside and out) that is electronically switched, correct? I know it is shown in the BIOC IIRC...

    3 things
    Flattery will get you everything
Not sure if I'm motivated enough to try (in light of all the open projects I already have)
I was thinking that a donor board from a 29 might be easier to add, rather than mod (and i have several)

Also, was looking at an MH-13 module for the gyro (BT rx), which A)claims 50m range but i'm not sure about that B) if the gyro is compatible with it (the gyros can be a bit finicky about hacked SPP) C)if that range would even be possible with the Panny BT module as tx

    Happy New Year!!!

I yanked the pass through out of a 29.
Literally just a spring loaded thingamajig that just barely disengages when you insert tab A in slot B.

You MAY get a 50m line of sight connection out of a Panny BT module... But I doubt it.

    Rick,

From what I understand it is a mechanical switch in the passthru. That goes to the onboard antenna circuitry. When an external antenna is connected, it senses the resistance and redirects the signal.
Now I am guessing a bit, but I think that I can redirect that external antenna to whatever radio is available. GPS or WWAN. Not sure about Bluetooth though.
Personally, I would prefer to just switch the wires internally and make a direct connection. If he is not using a dock, I would also convert the passthru to a R-SMA screw on antenna like I did years ago.
I would take the antenna wire coming from the rear of the R-SMA and run it direct to the BT module.
This would reduce the cabling/connector loses.
