Taking out a pad isn't as difficult as it seems. If you have a small flathead (like the 1/8 precision), something thin but with a long shaft, you can work it under the back edge and push it along the edge. Don't worry about getting it glued back in or anything since the lens will hold it.

The 28 touchpads are siliconed like crazy but luckily the 27 touchpads are not. Its probably a little late to offer this but I'd be happy to send you a good touchpad if it would help!

I normally clean my touchpads with alcohol too. I use a very small flat blade screwdriver to get into the corners with just a light pressure. I never tried the paper trick though... Until now.

I've got one more day to play with it before sending it out. It's not bad now... Just a slight irritation sometimes.

Grav... Thanks for the offer but it would take too long to get here... Even though you ship lightning fast.

Well... I am about finished with this. I am doing some final testing on it today and will ship it off either tonight or tomorrow morning.

    Hey TB and Cadilliac,
Thanks for being the "point"! If a Marine is the tip of the sword of American military might; then men like you sure make up the power behind the might.

Well... Here's the final product. Someone asked for pictures to be posted. I almost didn't want to because I wanted to surprise Mike & Linda. But I imagine they will be surprised enough when they get it.

I want to thank everyone who was a part of this. Caddy... It was your idea. It was a very generous thought. I'm glad we could make it happen.
Glen... Thanks for the case halves... Your gift allowed him to have a Toughbook that is over twice as fast as what they originally had. Modly... Thanks for the keyboard. He won't have to worry about sand now! Pappy... Thanks for the hard drive. He has enough space to hold the 15,000 songs I put on for him and have room to spare! Stiffnecked... Thanks for the check! You allowed him to have wifi! I need to also thank www.newegg.com. They offered us a $15 discount on any purchase. Since the only thing that came from them so far was the 100GB hard drive that Pappy bought... I haven't had a chance to use it yet. I'll take them up on their offer when I order more parts to take the place of the ones I used.

Mike also got bluetooth, a DVD R/W and 512MB RAM. Caddy and I will split those. I donated the touchscreen and my time. I've got the carcass of the 600 left over though it is pretty much picked bare.

Thanks to the others that made offers and cheered us on. It was much appreciated. This was a very fun project. I'm sure Mike will get many years of service out of this. He won't have a problem using the Internet now.. Now matter where he is! His friends will be jealous that's for sure.

    Anyway... Thanks again to everyone!

That thing rocks. Any soldier would be proud to take that with them. You did a good job.....
