I bought a new dell laptop last month and I don't like the keyboard. It doesn't have a number pad to the right. That is something I really need. I have a small space to work from and can't use a separate mouse and keyboard. What alternatives do I have?

I can't return it to dell as it's past the 30 day window.

Sell the dell and buy something else?

Why did it take you 30 days to figure this out?

If only you could see a picture of the laptop prior to purchasing...
Or if you could use it for some time and then be able to return it if the fit wasn't right...

    External number pad?

I know I'm a dummy for go past the 30 day return date. I could kick myself. It was not a cheap one either. 1800.00 after tax. I'm sure selling it after turning it on and configuring it wouldn't get me my exact dollar amount back either.

I could send it to the scrap man and get 1200.00 for it. I got 200.00 in cash back from dell on the purchase. It would cut my loss to 400.00 at that point.

I spent a lot of time looking at the wireless keyboards with the touch pads and number keys. That's what held me up past the 30 days.

I keep going back to here I am with an 1800.00 laptop that I can't use the keyboard.

It is driving me nuts on what to do.

Why not just get a 10-key like the others suggested? I know it's not a perfect solution, but it is a solution that won't involve you losing $400...

Like others have said I'm not sure how you didn't know there was no number pad, but I guess sell it and buy a laptop you're sure has a number pad.

just get a bluetooth numpad. the newer designs are quite compact, so that could very well work for you
