    Hi,

    I have a 5 year old ATIV Book 9 .... NP900X3E-K01US

Had to replace the fans recently and was told the battery also needs to be changed due to bloating... which is understandable as I've been using the laptop in hot environments most of the time.

Problem is the laptop is getting old and it's not worth putting money into fixing the various issues with it. I'm hoping to keep it going for 1 more year and then get a new one.

    Question:

** Can I remove the sealed battery and still use the laptop by plugging it in? I'd be happy to just use the laptop like a desktop for the next year.... if possible.

    Thoughts?

Yes, you should be able to use the computer without a battery installed. If you live near a Best Buy they should be able to accept the bloated battery for recycling. If not, check with your local municipal recycling center. Do not under any circumstances throw your bloated battery in the garbage. It is both toxic and a material hazard since it is chemically unstable. Also do not attempt to puncture a bloated battery since it will trigger an extreme chemical reaction which may end in a fire or chemical burns.

I did a quick search and found replacement batteries on ebay for around $20-30.

    Many thanks Groceries.

I'm currently in S/E Asia and have no idea what their thoughts might be on "proper" battery disposal.

I'll post a message if removing the battery prevented the laptop from working properly.

    Cheers,
