i'm updating my cpu to an intel core2duo, and i've read i need to update my bios on my 5315. What all does this entail? does a back up disk need to be made? will i have to reinstall my OS? Do i just download the "flash BIOS v1.34" from the acer website? I've never updated an OS so I'm just making sure i do it right and don't screw anything up. thanks.

i have had great success using the windows flash utility
    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5315.html

you might want to use version 1.33,, people using 1.34 have been experiencing an issue with the PC not booting up from a COLD BOOT status

so i would download 1.33... open the downloaded zip file.... cut/paste file on the desktop

    close zipfile

make sure power is plugged in,, and battery is fully charged

close all applications you possibily can

then double click on the new file on the desktop..
    picture of it is below

click START... and wait till it completes..... then it will reboot the PC....

now you have updated your BIOS

i think the cold boot problem only happens with certain versions of the mainboard,,, but i'm not sure..

i downgraded my bios when i made the previous post,,, and then shutdown for about 30 mins,,, and had no problems doing a COLD BOOT after going back 1.33

sc00trex,, you will be fine w/ v 1.34,,, you may have to restart the PC twice when first booting from a powered off state...

shutdown,,, let your PC set a few minutes and reboot and tell me what happens,, post results at this link:

    thanks.

Right click on it and then use the run as administrator.

I shut down antivirus, firewall and a few others before I flashed my 5315.
Be sure you know what your doing and have right file.
They say you can ruin a 5315 with a bad flash !

Mine runs 1.34 fine. Though my cursor disappears every now and then, always did.

Are you running Vista ? Don't think it's there in XP.

If in xp be sure your account has administrator rights.

    If vista check the same.

yes, i'm running vista. i'm the only account on the computer, but i've heard about single accounts not having administrator privelages for some reason. How do i check/change the administrative privelage settings?
