Laser's only target 1 car and they are instant, I've messed with a few of the local cops laser guns. If you have a lidar shifter and are using they WILL know. Pretty sure the lidar Shifters are illegal in most states, but I'm no law buff. I personally use the Passport 9500 radar detectors though, they have saved me many of times.

There is a simple reason why you are allowed to jam laser and not radar. The electromagnetic frequencies of radar fall under the regulation of the FCC. The electromagnetic frequencies of laser are open for anyone to do anything they want. A state has the power to deem laser detection and jamming illegal, but the federal government cannot.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, only buy a Valentine or Escort/Beltronics radar detector. Anything else is a complete waste of money. And even for pure radar detection, an old Escort Passport 8500 or 8500 X50 (if you need pop detection) is very good.

I do like my 8500 X50, but the lack of directional arrows is annoying. I mainly use it for driving up and down the 5 Freeway from SF to LA, and half the time when it goes off I have no idea where its coming from. Either the source is on the road behind me, which means that for 20 minutes or so (if no-one else is pulled over), it just slowly builds up, or its in front of me, so its the same thing, but only for 5 minutes or so until I pass them.

I think I am going to give my brother my escort and pick up a V1. I want those big freaking arrows.

I drive at a sane 5-10 mph over the speed limit. Around here its more dangerous to go the speed limit than it is to go the speed of traffic.

I have a Valentine 1 and Blinder M47 laser jammers on my car. The laser jammers came with the car so I didn't install them.

However, I've noticed that I rarely need any of this gear anymore as I drive much more sanely with this new car. I now adhere to the speed limit and only speed if I'm in a serious rush or want to stretch the legs of the engine.

To answer your question. Valentine 1 or Redline.
