Hi i know this type of question has been posted quite a lot but i still cant find the correct answer for me, im not neccessarily interested in THE best anti virus software but want to know which one you think works great for the lowest price.

I want to 'purchase' new original anti virus software but having spent up on my new laptop i dont want to be paying too much out for antivirus software on top of that, although i do want one that will do the job!

I have recently been recommended Tesco antivirus which is a bargain £10 but is that too good to be true, have any of you guys got experience of this software, is it up to par?

I also would like an anti virus that i dont have to keep paying for each year to top it up if possible. Which antivirus software would you recommend for a new notebook running vista home premium?????

    thankyou

Hmm looking in to those now thankyou, which would you recommend AVG or Avast? Would these free trial versions offer ample virus/spyware scanning and solutions to delete/clean infections, there must be a down side to them being free? Do they include good firewall or would you recommend using vista home premiums own firewall along with them? Dont want to take any chances on my new laptop, but if they do work as aan310 says "avg free, is better than lots of real pay ones" then i will just use those rather than paying out more.???

    thankyou

I recommend Avast over AVG, but IMO both are excellent.

personal preference, they r both good

these 2 (and many other good "free") have been around for many years and grow with system/threat demands - can however sympathise ur concerns about "down side of being free" - i m sure that they would appreciate if u move up the "not free" version

vista - just leave it to vista firewall and defender + ur "downside of being free" virus scanner :p

what did u use in ur previous laptop(s)?

ur question marks at the end of the statement shows that u r still being concerned about "free" virus scanners
dont worry, u r not in the minority in this aspect

    cheers ...

I have to recommend Avast over AVG because Avast finds little things AVG doesn't. Also i recommend Ad-aware 2007, and Webroot Spysweeper which is $40, along with Spybot Search&Destroy, and Mozilla Firefox web browser to be safe. The absolute best anti-virus i would recommend to you is Antivira Anti-virus. If you want to know what the safest, and best FF extensions are then pm me. As for a good firewall i haven't been able to find anything good that won't make my torrent speeds suffer.

I'd suggest Spyware Blaster. A free program that blocks spyware from even getting onto your pc! It does this by setting internet explorer and mozilla firefox to block certain websites known to have spyware. you just have to update manually every once in a while.
