Best antivirus for a clean windows install

    So having Windows defender on is much worse than pretty much any other A/V for being a resource hog?

    Depends on your hardware. Low performing hardware will struggle.

    I have a i7 6700hq and 16gb of Ram. I was curious if I would notice an improvement in media rendering from a simple A/V swap.

    Out of curiosity, I tried ESET SysRescue and eventhough its using older engine scan times are fast. It took 40 mins to scan C drive and an hour to scan my bulk storage HDD. WD was 2x slower in scan speed than ESET.
