    Hi there,

So I've been having some problems with my battery lately. Even though it is fully charged up, I'm only able to get ~15-20 minutes until the laptop will die (running on battery only of course). However, when I plug it back in, the computer is telling me that the battery still has ~90% charge left.

Before I go out and buy another battery, I was wonder if anyone know where the problem lies? Is it the battery or the computer?

    Thanks

How old is the laptop in question? Is it the Sony in your signature? Do know that batteries are consumable objects and are going to fail eventually. Whether it be 10 years or 1.5 years, it is luck of the draw.

It is about 2-3 years old. And yes I do know that over time parts (especially the battery) do wear down, but I just found it odd that it would show that the battery still has ~90% charge left even after the computer just told me it ran out of juice.

You may want to try to calibrate it:

Fully charge it, reboot into the BIOS and let it shut off by itself.

Do not leave it in this condition too long (10-15mins) plug it back in and recharge to 100% and leave it charging until the battery is cool to touch again (that's when charging has really ended).

You may need to do the above a few times - but if it still lasts only ~20 minutes, then you simply need a new battery.

    Good luck.
