Base System Device

    I just installed Windows Vista on my HP Pavilion DV6000 and in the device manager I have an unkown device and the name of it is a "Base System Device". Does anyone know what this could be?

    did you install all the drivers that came with your laptop ?

    the driver is on your SWSetup folder... im sorry i forgot the folder name for that driver but you can let Vista search it for you on your driver update

    Did you install 32-bit or 64-bit Vista? If 64-bit I'm amazed it's only one. If 32-bit, it'll either be QuickPlay buttons or card reader drivers. Either way, on Vista 32-bit you should be able to use your XP drivers from the SwSetup directory for now.

    It is the HP QuickLaunch buttons. Just run Windows Update, I had the same issue until earlier this week when Vista automatically installed the driver for it.

    Now, all I am missing is QuickPlay and Audio drivers.. hurry up HP!

    The base system device could also be your memory card reader :)
